The Assertive Community Treatment KIT is part of a series of documents created for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Mental Health Services. Meant to address the needs of program administrators, practitioners, and staff in the mental health field, this evidence-based practices KIT includes seven publications, as well as a DVD, CD-ROM, PowerPoint presentation, program brochure, training materials, and handbooks.

Following the organization, style, and format that we set in the Assertive Community Treatment KIT, we have now created several other KITS for SAMHSA. For example, Supported Employment is a well-defined approach to helping people with mental illnesses find and keep competitive employment within their communities. Supported Employment programs are staffed by employment specialists who have frequent meetings with treatment providers to integrate supported employment with mental health services.

Another KIT that has recently been published is the Integrated Treatment for Co-Occurring Disorders KIT. This KIT is for people who have co-occurring disorders, mental illness and a substance abuse addiction. This treatment approach helps people recover by offering both mental health and substance abuse services at the same time and in one setting.

Other KITS we worked on in the pipeline toward publication include Illness, Management, and Recovery; Family Psychoeducation; MedTEAM; Suppported Education; Permanent Supportive Housing. All address various topics in the mental health field and all include a wide range of materials for practitioners, administrators, and consumers and their families.
